Dear Fellow Educator:
I am an ancient history teacher at a middle school near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Over the past few years, I have
developed several pieces of historical fiction in a "choose
your own adventure" format. These stories are
based on actual people, places, and events of the ancient world. They are designed to
be read aloud by the teacher to the entire classroom, or individually online. They allow students to make choices and use
their imaginations in an interactive way in order to experience life in ancient times. At
certain points in the story, the
students are asked to decide in which direction the story should go. In some stories the
students will make a decision, however the outcome may be randomized to add an
element of surprise to the scenario. Some adventures allow the students to translate messages
written in ancient languages. Each adventure includes a series of follow-up questions
to check for understanding. These stories are written with a special focus on the young
adult listener/reader. For many years now, these activities have been
successfully utilized with both regular education and learning support students. They include step-by-step, easy to follow directions, and they are
ideal for public, home school, and individual use. I hope you find these stories as educational
and fascinating as others have found them!
Sincerely,
Jay D'Ambrosio, M.A.
